Hey Bombshell, That’s Sew Retro!
Welcome to the start of my Sew Retro Bombshell journey—where capsule meets me-made style
By now, you’ve probably heard of a capsule wardrobe — maybe even Project 333. The idea is simple: you choose a limited number of garments, shoes, and accessories, and box up the rest of your wardrobe for a season. For Project 333 (from Courtney Carver), that number is 33 items for three months.
The magic of a capsule is that it removes decision fatigue. No more standing in front of the wardrobe wondering what am I going to wear today? Everything works together, and everything fits your life.
The Capsule Wardrobe Guidelines
- Decide how many items you’ll include (Project 333 = 33 total).
- Decide how long the capsule will last (weekend travel, 1 month, or 3 months).
- If something wears out, replace it — this isn’t about deprivation, but simplicity.
- At the end of the season, rotate pieces out, shop your stored clothes first, then add or make new items if needed.
- Some favourites will stay season to season. Others will rotate out when you’re bored.
My Capsule Wardrobe Journey
I’m in the middle of shifting careers — from care support and cleaning work to operations consulting and copywriting. With that shift comes a new focus: I want to look put-together and elegant, not frumpy or chaotic.
I need clothes that:
- Fit my current body (not the one I used to have).
- Make me feel confident and professional.
- Can be thrown on quickly (because yes, I procrastinate getting ready).
Eventually, my wardrobe will be entirely me-made, but right now I’m blending ready-to-wear with garments I design, draft, and sew. No new fast fashion — only what I create myself.
My Style & Palette
Think retro bombshell / pin-up girl / corporate goth.
My colour palette for this season:
- Black
- Burgundy / Wine
- Grey (charcoal through to dove)
- Green (jade, emerald, forest)
- Deep purple
- Off-white (sparingly, as layering under vests or blazers)
What’s Next?
My first capsule will be a mix of what’s already in my wardrobe and new pieces I sew over the coming weeks. From there, I’ll build towards a fully me-made Project 333 capsule.
Through this blog, Facebook, and Instagram, you’ll see the hits, the misses, the pattern drafting, and the fabrics piled on my sewing table.
Tell me in the comments — what’s one item you would include in your capsule?
Until next time, that’s sew retro, bombshell!
